How to count 108 mantras on Apple Watch

Updated 7 November 2026 · By the Mantra Chanting developer · iOS 1.6

Use Mantra Chanting on Apple Watch to set a repetition target and count locally without keeping your iPhone nearby.

Set a goal and start with taps

  1. Install Mantra Chanting on a compatible iPhone and Apple Watch. Open the Watch app.
  2. Open Target and select the 108 preset. The target screen also supports adjustment with the Digital Crown and plus/minus controls.
  3. Choose tap counting and begin your practice. Tap once for each mantra repetition and follow the displayed count.
  4. When you finish, check your saved practice in the app. Keep the devices connected when you want their history to sync.

Other Watch counting choices

Wrist-motion counting responds to movement, so unrelated gestures can affect the count. Paced counting advances automatically at an interval; it is a pacing tool, not verification that a mantra was spoken. Use taps when you want direct control over each count.

What does not need the iPhone nearby?

Local Watch counting. Setup, purchases, iCloud or device syncing and other online services have separate connection requirements. Speech and clap counting are on iPhone, not the Watch.

Haptics and silence

Haptic feedback can help mark interactions on supported hardware. Its strength depends on device and system settings; it is not the same physical sensation as every type of mala bead.
