GoPhonics ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of children and families who use our iOS phonics learning application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use GoPhonics.
GoPhonics is designed for children ages 3–8 and is fully committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and all applicable privacy regulations worldwide.
1. Information We Collect
GoPhonics is designed with a privacy-first approach. We minimize data collection to only what is essential for the App to function and improve.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect personal information from children, including names, email addresses, photos, locations, or contact details.
- We do not collect device identifiers that can be used to personally identify a child.
- We do not require account creation or login to use the App.
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
Information That May Be Collected
- Anonymous Analytics Data: We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data such as which features are used, session duration, app crashes, and general device information (e.g., iOS version, device model). This data cannot be used to identify any individual user or child.
- Subscription Data: If a parent or guardian chooses to purchase a subscription, transaction and subscription management data is handled entirely by Apple (via the App Store) and RevenueCat (our subscription management partner). We do not directly collect or store any payment information, credit card numbers, or billing details.
- Learning Progress: Your child's learning progress, scores, and activity data are stored locally on the device only. This data is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
2. How We Use Information
The limited information we receive is used solely for the following purposes:
- App Improvement: Anonymous analytics help us understand which features are most popular and identify areas for improvement.
- Bug Fixes & Stability: Crash reports and performance data help us fix technical issues and ensure the App runs smoothly.
- Subscription Management: To verify subscription status and provide access to premium content.
We do not use any collected information for advertising, marketing to children, or creating user profiles.
3. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
GoPhonics is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and takes the following measures to protect children's privacy:
- No Personal Data Collection: We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.
- No Behavioral Advertising: The App contains absolutely no advertisements of any kind. We do not engage in behavioral advertising or interest-based targeting.
- Parental Gate: GoPhonics implements a strict mathematical parental gate that prevents children from accessing settings, making purchases, or navigating to external links without parental supervision. Only a parent or guardian can modify app settings or authorize subscriptions.
- No Social Features: The App does not include chat, messaging, social media integration, or any feature that allows children to communicate with others or share personal information.
- No External Links Accessible to Children: All external links are protected behind the parental gate.
- Offline Capability: GoPhonics is designed to work fully offline. An internet connection is not required for any learning activities, further minimizing any data transmission.
4. Third-Party Services
GoPhonics uses a limited number of trusted third-party services. We carefully select partners who share our commitment to privacy and data protection.
Apple App Store
All purchases and subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store. Apple handles all payment processing in accordance with their own privacy policy. We do not receive or store any payment card details. For more information, please review Apple's Privacy Policy.
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements. RevenueCat processes anonymized transaction data provided by Apple to verify subscription status. RevenueCat does not collect personal data from children. For more information, please review RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Firebase Analytics (Google)
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics. Firebase Analytics in GoPhonics is configured to:
- Collect only anonymous, non-personally-identifiable data.
- Disable advertising ID collection.
- Disable remarketing and advertising features.
- Comply with COPPA requirements for children's apps.
For more information, please review Firebase's Privacy Information.
No Advertising Networks
GoPhonics does not integrate any advertising SDKs, ad networks, or data brokers. We do not share any user data with advertisers or third-party marketers under any circumstances.
5. Data Security
We take the security of your family's data seriously and implement the following safeguards:
- Local Storage: All learning progress and app settings are stored locally on the user's device using secure iOS storage mechanisms. This data never leaves the device.
- Encrypted Communications: Any data transmitted between the App and third-party services (such as subscription verification) is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/SSL protocols.
- Minimal Data Principle: We follow the principle of data minimization, collecting only what is strictly necessary for the App to function properly.
- Secure Infrastructure: Our third-party partners (Apple, RevenueCat, Firebase) maintain enterprise-grade security infrastructure and comply with industry security standards.
6. Data Retention
- Local Data: Learning progress and app settings remain on the device until the App is deleted. Uninstalling GoPhonics will remove all locally stored data.
- Analytics Data: Anonymous analytics data is retained by Firebase in aggregated form and cannot be linked to individual users. This data is retained according to Firebase's standard data retention policies.
- Subscription Data: Subscription records are managed by Apple and RevenueCat according to their respective retention policies. We do not independently store subscription transaction data.
7. Parental Rights
As a parent or legal guardian, you have the following rights regarding your child's interaction with GoPhonics:
- Review Information: You may request to review any information we may have associated with your child's use of the App. Given our privacy-first design, this is limited to anonymous analytics data which cannot be linked to individual users.
